To prevent wear and maintain the precision of the movement, extremely hard and stable stones are used as bearings for these rotating axles: rubies.<\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0cm; margin-left: 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; caret-color: #000000; color: #000000; font-style: normal;\">\u00c0 l\u2019origine, ces pierres \u00e9taient naturelles, mais leur co\u00fbt \u00e9lev\u00e9 en limita progressivement l\u2019usage. En 1902, le chimiste fran\u00e7ais\u00a0Auguste Verneuil\u00a0inventa un proc\u00e9d\u00e9 industriel permettant de fabriquer des rubis synth\u00e9tiques par fusion. Ces rubis prirent rapidement le relais et sont encore utilis\u00e9s aujourd\u2019hui, car ils conservent toutes les propri\u00e9t\u00e9s de cette pierre naturelle tout en \u00e9tant beaucoup plus accessibles.<\/p><p style=\"margin-right: 0cm; margin-left: 0cm; font-size: medium; font-family: 'Times New Roman', serif; caret-color: #000000; color: #000000; font-style: normal;\">Une montre m\u00e9canique classique contient g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement entre 17 et 25 petits rubis, de mod\u00e8les de collection peuvent en afficher entre 39 et 45. Plus une montre est complexe, plus le nombre de rubis peut augmenter, m\u00eame si un chiffre \u00e9lev\u00e9 n\u2019est pas toujours synonyme de meilleure qualit\u00e9. Par ailleurs, certaines grandes maisons de joaillerie vont m\u00eame plus loin en int\u00e9grant des rubis de grande taille, visibles c\u00f4t\u00e9 cadran, alliant ainsi fonction m\u00e9canique et
